The Checketts go to Utah

We started our summer off with a long drive from our home in Austin Texas to Nana & Popi's in Utah. It was really great to see all our friends and family. The timing worked out so that we were able to go to the Salt Lake Temple with Katie and Kenny to witness their sealing, Andy was home, Brooke was baptized, and we went to our cousin Steven Hunt's wedding reception. We saw many of our cousins and family members. Having all three of us home, with the pee wees, was a rare treat. I know mom & dad really enjoyed it.
Upon arrival we were whisked off to Haven's baseball game. It was a tad chilly and so we were bundled up. It was fun to see Haven all suited up and ready to play. Dixie was excited to get out and use her sniffer, she kept busy, but ultimately ended up in the blanket with Mom and the kids. Kenny is an assistant coach and was on the sidelines helping out.

I was quickly initiated into the art of beekeeping. Mom let me observe while she checked on one of her many hives. She has been very sucessful with her honey production, and has marketed it, with the help of Kenny, to the staff at BYU and other places. It was facinating to watch Mom as she scraped the extra beeswax (the bees make it to fill in the spaces) off the frames. She is already off to a good start with one box full of honey. It's amazing the number of bees there are in one hive. It's difficult to grasp how many there are until you actually see the hive open.

One of the first things we did was to go to lunch with Grandma Lewis. In keeping with tradition, we went to Brick Oven for pizza, pasta, salad, and of course rootbeer. It was nice to see her again and catch up on what everyone is up to. She doesn't miss a beat.
